introduction

Evolution Miniatures released a nice series of 1:35 resin World War II German SS soldiers in winter clothing. Besides the nice sculpt and high quality casting, the figures are very good posed to display alone or gather the figures of the series together in a winter scene.

EM-35006 represents a World War II German SS Grenadier watching around holding his hand on the brim/visor of his cap. This is a good posing to display the figure next to EM-35006 German SS Officer carrying a binoculars.

box

The figure comes well packed in a transparent plastic cylindiric box in 9 cm height and 7 cm.diameter. There is a colored label on the box showing the company name, product name and the photo of the assembled and painted figure. Inside the box, a high quality photo print of the painted figure from different angles is supplied and can serve as a good painting reference. As I received the review samples, I thought the cylindiric shape of the kit is a good protection for the parts but can cause some problems during the transport but in a days I got an e-mail from the company telling they changed the box to rectangular cardboard box. Good point to see the problems in a short time and solve them. You may see the new box style in Evolution Miniatures News.

The parts are represented with the casting blocks and inserted in a plastic zip-lock bag to avoid unexpected damages during transfer. Small parts are secured in a second plastic bag.

parts

The figure is sculpted by Sergey Traviansky and comes in 5 medium grey resin parts. The quality of the resin is good and details are clean. There are no air bubbles, no serious excess resin or any casting mistakes on the figure. The junctions between figure parts and casting blocks were well placed to remove the parts from the blocks without damage. There will be a need for an extra care to remove the rifle from the casting block as the barrel of the rifle is a fragile piece.

  • The figure is cast in one piece which makes a great ease on assembly.Only the right hand is given as a seperate part. Some parts of personal gear are also cast on the body. Facial details of the figure are well represented. He wears M43 Field cap - Einheitsmütze on his head. The field cap is covered with the German Army tube-shaped woolen balaclava. The details of the the cap like cockade, emblem and buttons and folds of balaclava are well defined. As the outer coat; he wears a knee-lenght, German Army waterproof winter parka with a large hood, two flip top cover pockets on both sides of the chest and two inner pockets on both sides of waist. The interior of the coat and the large hood are covered in wool. The wool texture on the hood , cloth folds , pocket details and torn part in front of parka are all very well represented. Enlisted man’s leather belt and leather Y-straps are sculpted on the figure. He carries triple leather ammo pouches named Patronentashe on both sides and a Model 24 Stielhandgranate - German Stick grenade inserted to his belt. The strap of the gasmask case is also sculpted on the figure. He carries a Brotbeutel - Bread bag on the right hip. The left arm of the figure is fully sculpted with the figure with nice cloth folds. The hand with lined woolen gloves is posed next to the visor of the cap as he is watching around. The right arm is sculpted adjacent to the body as he is holding his rifle on the right side. He wears M1942 woolen trousers and leather boots. The folds are well defined on both parts.

    Other parts are;

  • Right hand : He wears woolen gloves and carries the standard rifle of German Army - Kar 98k. Note that an extra care can be needed to remove this part from casting block as the barrel is fragile.

  • Canteen : Feldflasche - M 1931 water bottle in canvas cover. Buckles, straps and buttons on the side are well defined. It will be assembled over the bread bag.

  • Shovel : Spaten und Tasche - Flat shovel with leather carrier. It will be glued on the left hip.

  • Gaskmase case : Tragbusche fur Gasmaske - Metal can to carry the gaskmask. It will be attached on the backside where the straps meet.

    conclusion

    Another nice sculpt and high quality casting. A very nice figure to display alone or in WW II German winter vignettes and dioramas. The figure can be painted in fieldgrey, white or different camouflage patterns.
    Highly Recommended
